Located at the confluence of the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork Rivers (2 gold medal trout streams) is the ideal mountain town of Basalt. This town is centrally located in the valley and offers first class restaurants, shopping and  recreational opportunities. Basalt is named after the basaltic rock formation of Basalt Mountain. It began as a railroad town and there are seven kilns, which were constructed in 1882, due to the demand for charcoal from smelters in Aspen. The kilns still stand today and there is a  lot of history associated with them.

Basalt offers international cuisine such as Tempranillo,  where internationally acclaimed chef Javier Gonzalez-Bringas, a Madrid native, combines an old-world style with a new-world flair in his signature cuisine. The name Tempranillo, itself, pays homage to one of Spain’s premier grape varieties, and true to its name the restaurant features a selection of over 100 hand-chosen wines as well as Tempranillo’s own hearty blend of fruit filled Sangria. Tempranillo.
