The Carbondale Community

Carbondale is touted as one on "The Top 10 Adventure Towns in the U.S." by National Geographic Adventure magazine and as one of the "50 Best Places to Live/Most Active Towns" by Men's Journal magazine, Carbondale is a great base camp for recreation enthusiasts.

At an altitude of 6,181 feet there is an average of 295 days of sunshine, low humidity, cold but mild winters and comfortable summers. Carbondale is known as "the banana belt" of the Roaring Fork and Crystal River Valleys.

There is plenty to do, including hiking, biking, gold medal fly fishing, kayaking and skateboarding. In the winter, there is cross-country skiing, snowshoeing trails, snowmobiling and world famous downhill skiing and snowboarding.

Carbondale is located 170 miles west of Denver, 12 miles from Glenwood Springs, and 30 miles from Aspen in the heart of the central Rocky Mountains.

Carbondale continues to draw recognition as a culinary hot-spot from upscale and casual to sophisticated and succulent. A handful of out-of-the-way and unfranchised eateries offer an exquisite dining experience. You'll find Thai fair at the Phat Thai  located in the historic district of town. A locals' favorite is Russets, named after the potato as Carbondale is historically known for harvesting potatoes, . A newer, fine dining restaurant located downtown is Ella which features fine wines and a cosmopolitan dining experience.  For more information on other restaurants in town go to Carbondale Chamber.

Several diverse organizations are dedicated to the inspiration and promotion of the arts. Find yourself in a dramatic outdoor setting as you experience the visual arts, theatre with our new performing arts theatre, dance and music . You can wind your way from gallery to gallery and uncover the spirit of the valley in photography, painting, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewelry, woodworking, blacksmithing and the  performing  Arts.  Perhaps the most notable is the Annual CCAH Mountain Fair, which offers three days of music, arts and crafts-people come from everywhere for this fair.
